Currently reading : THAT never happened.
Do you like fantasy stories? Do you like interesting characters and riveting storytelling?
Andreas Hofer‘s universe is populated by a couple of those “elaborate religious ritual” stories that I’m very much interested in, but completely unsubverted.
That is, it turns out there is always “a god”, which is being manipulated, but the reality of that “god” is unambiguously established throughout the story. The narrator, when there is one, is non-human, (closer to a phantom or a superheroe) and nothing magical happens. What I love about it, though, is the fact the images often take place at the moment that narrator’s species is passing into a kind of preternatural mode of existence; which is to say becoming fully sentient, and becoming something that we artists can strangely relate to.
” Time is out of wrack, bendable: home to a history that never happened.”
