GRAPHITE GALLERY is very pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Austin Power. In a series of minimal watercolor portraits on paper, Power continues to explore the difficulty and discomfort in fully understanding a person for his first solo exhibition with Graphite. Using the physicality of his subjects as a guideline, Power employs intuitive emotional color to create snapshots of his personal relationships. Each of Power’s portraits is not a simple rendering of a friend, but a measure of the distance between the subject and himself. Power leaves his subjects incomplete to highlight their limitations, as well as his own inability to see the subject beyond the influence of himself.

“Austin Power’s November” is a survey of watercolor portraits created in the month of November 2010. Though each portrait stands alone as an intimate impression of one of Power’s personal relationships, the group of portraits presented creates a greater self portrait of Power preparing for his debut solo show.

Power is currently participating in “Dark Days” at Eyelevel BQE Gallery in Brooklyn New York, on view until January 2, 2011. Other recent notable shows for the artist include: a three person show “Vanishing Point” at Tommy Crow Studio in Rosemary Beach Florida by curator Caroline Taylor, Silent Noise at RABBITHOLESTUDIO in Brooklyn New York, “Born to Die…” at Secondhome Projects in Berlin Germany, “Point” at the Sweet Loraine Gallery in Brooklyn New York by Radar Curatorial, among others.
