The discovery of the Invisible Mother Photos sparked the memory of another bizarre 19th Century tradition of photographing family members after the event of their death, a common practice with such high mortality rates. The practice was both a means of remembering the lost loved one, the image often the only ever taken, and to some a way for the deceased to continue living on through the photograph.
